I generally work with telling time in German quite quickly with my beginner German students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.

62 posters / flashcards featuring 21 Spanish-speaking countries and 10 Portuguese-speaking countries with the countries, capital cities and flags, in Spanish.
I’ve found having the posters in my classroom provides an instant introduction to the scope of the Spanish-speaking world, and seeing the countries where Portuguese, rather than Spanish, is spoken, prevents them confusing the two from the very beginning of their learning - my students do often tend to get them a little mixed up!
The posters are great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too. I often ask quick questions such as ¿Cuál es la capital de…?, ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? or ¿Se habla español o portugués en Brasil? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner language learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important. This works particularly with my beginner Spanish classes, as it’s a great way of encouraging them to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish program. I’ve often found that there can be several (or more!) countries that students don’t actually know, or have never heard of, and the posters are really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of the wider world.
There are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or plain. Laminate them if you can, as they hang really well, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years.
I’ve also uploaded a set of posters which focus solely on Spanish-speaking countries - have a look here ($3.75):

I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in French. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the silent x on the plural of cheval : chevaux, and this is really useful at consolidating accurate French pronunciation.
There are 25 animals featured in the game:
bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck
fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit
sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle
All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply learning or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practicing particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. The images are essentially visual prompts and clues, helping students infer meaning from context. The longer and more complex sentences really help students focus on reading out loud accurately, and think more carefully about language, and how to pronounce it correctly.
There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more!
Laminate the cards if you can: they’re far more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to use them over and over again.

SPANISH NUMBERS 0-21 TASK CARDS
SPANISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER SPANISH NUMBERS 0-21 TASK CARDS perfect for developing Spanish language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising Spanish numbers
There are 48 differentiated questions, full answer key and a recording sheet. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language skills creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy putting new questions together for each other.
Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocab, but throughout the year as starters and refreshers. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in Spanish, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions***range in complexity and challenge***, and are all in Spanish, with a significant amount of Spanish maths language. The maths symbols graphics enable students to use visual clues and prompts to foster understanding.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format:
48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out.
answer recording sheet - we do sometimes actually just use class notebooks for recording answers
answer key - one answer key for each small group is sufficient, laminate if you can - I always give answer keys for task cards, however young the learner - they really help them develop more independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with language
question card template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity

French Numbers 0-100 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
They have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner French learners to the concept of translation too.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on***French Numbers 0-100***, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French maths language, which students do not always engage with very often.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years.
= answer key and recording sheet - I use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes. My students all have class workbooks, and they use those to work out their answers, and to note them down, saving both prep time and paper.
French Numbers 0-100 Word Searches Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on French Numbers 0-100, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general.
Students are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language.

FRENCH TELLING TIME HALF PAST WORKSHEETS FREEBIE
PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION FRENCH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER FRENCH HOW TO TELL TIME IN FRENCH HALF PAST THE HOUR ANALOG WORKSHEETS FREEBIE I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young / beginner French students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set, so that they can practice and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.
The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for sub lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning French and geography suitable for any age range, at any time of the school year, and particularly at the beginning of a French program. Students can develop their knowledge of the geography and scope of La Francophonie in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones.
The set contains countries / territories where French is an official language. There are 7 differentiated sets of 2 worksheets, 14 worksheets in total. There is an alphabetical reference list featuring countries, capital cities, continent and national flag. All the worksheets are in random, rather than alphabetical order for maximum challenge. Together, the differentiated challenges ensure students will really embed and consolidate their knowledge of La Francophonie.
The set features the following worksheets:
Worksheets 1 & 2: flags are in color, students label continent, country and capital city
Worksheets 3 & 4: flags are BW, students color the flags appropriately, label continent, country and capital city
Worksheets 5 & 6: flags are in color, students label continent and capital city from a country/flag prompt
Worksheets 7 & 8: the same as 5&6, with additional challenge of coloring the BW flags appropriately
Worksheets 9 & 10: flags are in color, students label country from a flag / continent / capital prompt
Worksheets 11 & 12: the same as 9&10, with additional challenge of coloring the BW flags appropriately from a flag/continent/capital prompt
Worksheets 13 & 14: blank flags, which student recreate according to country, also labelling continent and capital city
There is a country, capital city, flag and continent reference list of all countries and capitals, which students find useful to read through before working on the sheets - I laminate these, and one list per small group of 5-6 students is sufficient. It can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning folders.

Spanish-speaking countries Los países hispanohablantes presentation & quiz an instant and comprehensive introduction to 21 countries where Spanish is an official language, which really help my students develop their awareness of the Spanish-speaking world: countries, their location and capital cities and flags.
There are 21 countries featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually on a world map, so that students can see exactly where in the world it lies: this immediately gives a geographical context for students, whose knowledge of world geography may not encompass the Spanish-speaking or wider world. I also use this part of the presentation to work on pronunciation, encouraging students to repeat and read aloud with me - this really does help with memory too.
There are 186 slides in the resource, which is non-editable for copyright reasons.
Presentation Slides 1-22: title slide, followed by 21 slides showing the location on a world map of each of the 21 countries where Spanish is an official language. Each slide has the title ¿Dónde está…?
Presentation Slides 23-43: have the title ***Aquí se habla español ***and shows the flag, country and capital city of the individual countries
Question Slides 1-20: showing a flag, and asking for example ***¿Chile o Costa Rica?***, followed by an answer slide, with the country and its capital city.
Question Slides 21-40: also showing a flag, asking ***¿Dónde estoy?***, followed by an answer slide, with its country and capital city.
Question Slides 41-50: showing 2 flags, with the questions for example ***¿Chile A o B?***, followed by an answer slide, with both countries and capital cities.

ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS #2
ESL EFL INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH ADVANCED ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS This set of English conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for advanced intermediate English to advanced English students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on i***f + subjunctive + conditional clauses***. There is a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, particularly the use of tenses. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about actively learning it.
Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts.
Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas.
As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards amongst your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group.
The starters broadly address the following themes:
music, film & television
literature & culture
personal life, information & preferences
leisure & free time
health & well-being
history & society
recent & current events
travel, tourism & holidays
technology & social media
likes & dislikes

FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS BUNDLE #1
ADVANCED BEGINNER FRENCH INTERMEDIATE FRENCH ADVANCED FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS two sets of 100 French conversation starters @ $5.00 each in the bundle
Set 1 French Conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for advanced beginner French to intermediate French students.
Set 2 French Conversation starters also features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate French to advanced French students.
Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
In Set 1, the questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of the present perfect tense. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it.
I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.
In Set 2, the questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on si + imperfect + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as agreement with preceding direct object, use of the subjunctive and so on.
I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, regardless of student learning level, to facilitate learner progress. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners.
Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts.
Each card has an image: some of these are specific visual prompts to help students infer meaning; some are more generic images. I do use images as much as possible with this kind of activity, not only to provide the prompt, but also to add to the visual appeal of it, which is a real motivator for learning.
I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to continue the conversation going.
The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year. They’re also great as both entrance and exit tickets, and also for five-minute refreshers, which I use quite frequently during the school year. In the preparation phase, having access to bilingual dictionaries and / or the internet, this can be really helpful. These tools can help them prepare detailed responses to questions in ways that do not necessarily always focus on their own life and experiences.
The starters in Set 1 broadly address the following themes:
personal information
family & routines at home
hobbies & free time
likes & dislikes
local environment
food & drink
school & studies
sport & healthy living
countries & languages
weather & seasons
The starters in Set 2 broadly address the following themes:
music, film & television literature & culture
personal life, information & preferences
leisure & free time
health & well-being
history & society
recent & current events
travel, tourism & holidays
technology & social media

Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas.

FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS #2
FRENCH IMMERSION INTERMEDIATE FRENCH ADVANCED FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS This set of French Conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate French to advanced French students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on si + imperfect + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as agreement with preceding direct object, use of the subjunctive and so on.
I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about actively learning it.
The starters broadly address the following themes:
music, film & television literature & culture
personal life, information & preferences
leisure & free time
health & well-being
history & society
recent & current events
travel, tourism & holidays
technology & social media
likes & dislikes
local environment
environmental & social issues
education & studies

This set of Spanish conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I like to include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.

I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going.
The starters broadly address the following themes:
personal information
family & routines at home
hobbies & free time
likes & dislikes
local environment
food & drink
school & studies
sport & healthy living
countries & languages
weather & seasons

I generally work with telling time in Italian quite quickly with my beginner Italian students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in Italian class, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Che ora è? (1 o’clock, 5 past one etc) / Che ore sono? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Vero o falso? and students write either vero or falso - where the answer is falso, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.

Create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. Telling time is key beginner Spanish vocabulary, which is really useful to know as soon as possible, and students are able to familiarize themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and also how sounds are represented in the written form.
I use these kinds of flashcards / posters to gradually introduce and work on the specific target language vocabulary we’re working on, and to provide speaking and pronunciation prompts, from the straightforward ¿Qué hora es? to ¿Sí/ no? or ¿Verdadero o falso? questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as negative sentences No, no es medianoche, es mediodía and so on, paying particular attention here to the masculine and feminine.
These are really simple ways to really try to get the most from classroom learning decor, using them as visual language prompts, as well as keeping the target vocabulary fresh in students’ minds, and as language refresh and revision by changing the decor at certain points of the school year. I like to have sets of learning displays for students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or plain, so 56 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years!
